This paper provides a defense of the principle ‘avoid risk for others:’ when a person’s risk-attitudes are unknown, it is wrong to take, on their behalf, some of the risks that they could rationally choose to take.

The rationalist reception of descartes/ Alan Nelson, Noa Shein

Focusing on Spinoza as a gateway for the rationalist reception of Descartes, this chapter compares their thoughts on, in telling reverse order, body, mind, and the union of mind and body. While keeping sight of other rationalist takes on Descartes, this chapter aims to show that more than simply a radical departure from his predecessor’s metaphysics, Spinoza’s can also be seen as an adjustment of it, seeking to confront some of its problems.
